The sun shining, 62 degrees, feels more like spring than fall-almost winter.
After months (or years) of anticipation, the big day finally here.
In towns like Chesterfield, where a dog wears a McCain sign.
Or Winchester, where a sign reads “Irish for Obama.”
Except for a few on the fringe, a country that could actually again be united, after years apart.
This will be no easy task, but somewhere along the line, the race became a real one.
For the first time I can remember, people on both sides are voting FOR their candidate, not against the opponent.
Win or lose, it won’t be because of Obama’s color or McCain’s age.
It will be because people want change, they just differ on who’s best able to deliver it.
Fox News is broadcasting images of scary black men, one with a stick; a disturbing image, no doubt, not because of the men’s skin color, but because we are a nation where people are free to vote their conscience, without fear or intimidation.
Fox News doesn’t interview the men. It lets the image do the talking.
I wonder what they would say….

Wheelock School

There was no line for those already registered and things moved along at a decent pace.

PETERBOROUGH — At the intersection of Routes 101 and 202 on Sunday, passing motorists only flashed thumbs-up or thumbs-down to folks waving signs for Barack Obama and John McCain.
They must have been saving their voices for the ruckus downtown — where McCain had a scheduled appearance at the Peterborough Town House.
More than 1,000 supporters of McCain, the Republican presidential nominee, showed up in Peterborough on Sunday, seeming to fill downtown to capacity.
The McCain supporters waited in a line that snaked from outside the Town House down Grove Street, around Phoenix Mill Lane and back to Grove Street over the bridge and nearly to Vale Street.
Even though they knew only a few hundred of them would actually get in to the event, spirits were high.
Folks at the back of the line, including Matt and Debbi Stapleton, from Townsend, Mass., said they just wanted to encourage their candidate.
McCain “needs to know there are people who support him,” Matt Stapleton said. Read the rest of this entry »
